Light, bright and local preparations

The Preparations

Keep it all local

Preparations are a big part of your wedding day, so why not make the most of it. Over the years, I have found that certain things can make preparations quite stressful, especially if getting ready at home. I highly encourage booking accommodation (Air B&B’s are the best) that is within a close proximity to your ceremony venue. Not only does it eliminate the need for a second photographer for logistics, it also reduces the risk of traffic issues, and potential delays in your ceremony start time. Oh, and did I mention it also saves you money (and time!) in cleaning and organising the family home for us to only use one room. It’s all done for you at an Air B&B!

Open spaces and natural light please

Natural light is seriously the best, so the more there is, the better the photos will be! Bright and spacious locations are the best for getting ready in. As much as family homes are gorgeous, and obviously sentimental, there can be problems with this. Most family homes are quite dated, with minimal lighting and dark styling. Don’t get me wrong, I LOOOOOVE family homes, it is super sentimental, but it can lead to chaos and awkward to shoot in. Imagine you’re getting ready, and unplanned guests start turning up whilst you’re trying to get ready (no thank you!) AND did I mention the cleaning, to then only use one room.

Do your best to clean up messy looking items in the background that you don’t want in your wedding photos, like a big black TV, or a pile of clothes. If you can replace these items with something simple and pretty, you won’t regret it!

ideal timings

I spend anywhere from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours for each of the partners preparation, this is
customised to suit, depending on where and what is happening before the ceremony. I’ll touch base to know locations of where you’re getting ready to finalise our timings and am always happy to help where I can in the planning.

My strongest advice is to arrange for hair and make-up to finish at least 1 hour before you
need to leave. Then you’re relaxed, and not stressed because things are behind schedule.
Don’t worry about us we’ll make ourselves at home, roam around to capture details and moments, assist when needed, and help to keep track of time.

You just do you.
